Prevention, Preparedness and Response to Natural and Man-made Disasters in the Eastern Partnership Countries

EU-funded Flagship Initiative increasing disaster risk management capacities in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

As a follow-up to the PPRD East 2  Regional Workshop on Coordination of International Emergency Relief Operations held in Denmark in July 2018 as a training of trainers (, the Partner Countries were encouraged to organise similar workshops in their own countries. On 10-11 December 2018, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan arranged the national workshop in Baku, attended by the members of the Azeri Urban Search and Rescue Team aiming to be certified by the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) in 2020. The workshop noted that the international coordination arrangements were relevant, not only in case of a large-scale disaster in Azerbaijan, but also if Azeri rescue teams were to assist in disaster response abroad. Based on the success of this workshop, Azerbaijan will arrange similar workshops in other parts of the country to ensure that a larger number of experts have knowledge of international coordination arrangements. Eventually, it is the intention to include such arrangements also in the curriculum of the national civil protection academy so as to ensure that future civil protection officers are prepared to function in an international environment.
