Prevention, Preparedness and Response to Natural and Man-made Disasters in the Eastern Partnership Countries

EU-funded Flagship Initiative increasing disaster risk management capacities in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

In order to provide insight on EU good practices and access to key legal documents on Civil Protection volunteerism in EU Member States, the PPRD East 2 Programme organised between 11 and 16 September 2016 a Study Tour for members of the Partner Countries’ national working groups that were established to draft and develop national legislative and institutional framework for volunteerism in the Civil Protection area. Through visits to the voluntary organizations and to the national civil protection authorities of two States participating in the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, the Study Tour offered the opportunity to observe different legal and institutional set-ups of Civil Protection Volunteers and the volunteer-based disaster response/preparedness and prevention systems. It concluded with a half-day workshop, during which the PPRD East 2 experts with the participating delegations examined aspects that could be used in the national volunteering systems of Partner Countries, including definition and agreement on future steps ahead for each national working group.
