Prevention, Preparedness and Response to Natural and Man-made Disasters in the Eastern Partnership Countries

EU-funded Flagship Initiative increasing disaster risk management capacities in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The Disaster Risk Assessment (DRA) Regional Workshop has been organised on 21-22 September 2016 in Tbilisi, Georgia. The objective of the workshop was to clarify the general and specific objectives of disaster risk assessment activities in Partner Countries and initiate the active work in a collaborative manner. Participants have been presented with the EU DRA Guidelines, Phase 1 Risk/Hazard Assessment Policy for ENPI Eastern Region, the EU Member States good practices (wildfires, landslides, climate extremes and earthquake), and ERRA as a platform for supporting DRA. Methodologies and tools for disaster risk assessments of specific hazards – landslide, wildfires, earthquake, and climate extremes – as well as the multi-hazard risk assessment have been presented and discussed. This workshop complemented the already started work of national DRA working groups and experts in developing/adjusting/enhancing a National DRA Methodology. The mutual conclusion of the participants is that the workshop has achieved in sharing the understanding of the general and specific objectives of the DRA activities, as well as in establishing common understanding of the DRA concept and its practical use.
